Some organic reading…

Maybe as little as 15 years ago, ‘going organic’ was widely viewed as nothing more than an expensive fad – a way of life reserved for the wealthy hippie tree-hugging types – but, fast forward to modern day and the outlook couldn’t be more different.

As anyone who follows us will know, we are passionate advocates of eating organic (we also hug trees from time to time), and that’s why you will only find high-quality organic ingredients in our products. In this post we give you our top 5 reasons why:

1. Organic farming avoids the use of nasty synthetic pesticides and GMOs.

So much of the non-organic fruit and veg you find in supermarkets are sprayed with various synthetic pesticides before reaching the shelves and these residues remain on (and in) the food we eat, which, over time, could seriously impact your health.

2. Organic farming is kinder on the environment.

Organic farming practices reduce pollution, conserve water, reduce soil erosion, increase soil fertility, and use less energy. Farming without synthetic pesticides is also better for nearby wildlife as well as people who live close to farms.

3. Organic farms tend to have higher animal welfare standards.

Please note that we are not implying for one second that there aren’t plenty of non-organic farmers with incredibly high ethics and who care for their animals to a very high standard, but, in general, organically raised animals are given things like more living space, more access to outdoor roaming, and are not pumped with antibiotics, growth hormones or fed GMO foods.

4. Organic foods are richer in nutrients.

Several studies have shown organic produce to contain significantly greater levels of vitamin C, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and antioxidants than non-organic varieties of the same foods. The same can be said for organic meat and dairy products, which have been shown to contain up to 50% higher levels of key nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, when compared to conventionally raised versions. You’re also not eating traces of synthetic pesticides when you eat organic, which is a pretty nice bonus

5. Organic foods are fresher and come from trustworthy, certified organic farms.

Non-organic food is frequently packed with synthetic additives, preservatives and colourings to improve shelf life and appearance but this isn’t the case with organic food, meaning you’re buying and consuming fresher food. And when it comes to the source of your food, if it’s certified organic it means the farm it is produced on has passed and is upholding the strict standards set to achieve such a status, so you can rest easy knowing that what you see is exactly what you get.

Please note, these are our opinions. We understand in some cases, it may be better not to focus on purely organic, and focus more on independent local produce.

So there you have it – five reasons why we only deal in organic* and five reasons to visit our shop and order some delicious organic Ketonuts. (*where possible)
